Want more Quarter Midget information?
The official website for Quarter Midgets of America racing is www.quartermidgets.org. It offers general information, upcoming events, links to individual club websites, etc.
Another site with both information and some fun features is www.quartermidgets.com. This site offers the latest news on big events - including live coverage of selected races on their www.quartermidgetslive.com site. Novices will appreciate the "learn the flags" printable coloring page, and everyone can enjoy the free online racing game "Race 3D".
To see if your child likes racing BEFORE you invest a lot of time and money, some clubs offer a "try before you drive" program. In addition, most QMA clubs have novice training classes for new drivers which teaches track rules, how to line up for a race, safety procedures, etc.
The best way to get started is to contact the QMA club nearest your home and see what type of novice program is offered.
Differences Between RaceQuip Suits
We are often asked to describe the differences between the RaceQuip Stock-5, Pro-5 and Quarter Midget suits.
There are two major differentiations that identify each suit - the type of fabric used, and the SFI rating. The preferred fabric type is primarily based on your own personal preference - there are no measurable safety differences. The SFI rating is an accepted industry standard used to measure fire resistance. The higher the SFI rating, the greater fire resistance offered.
- Stock-5: Double layer suit made of Nomex with a SFI rating of 3-2A/5 (SFI-5)
- Pro-5: Double layer suit made of Proban with a SFI rating of 3-2A/5 (SFI- 5)
- Quarter Midget: Double Layer suit made of Proban with a SFI rating of 3-2A/1 (SFI-1)
The Stock-5, Pro-5 and Quarter Midget suits are all QMA legal, however the "Quarter Midget" suit does not meet the recommended (but not required) SFI-5 rating.
None of the suits listed offer any significant abrasion resistance. (Abrasion resistant suits are often used for kart racing)
